NYC Diaries 2015

At 4am I woke up to darkness, as I hastily got dressed, I packed some final bits and bobs and headed out the door, where I was woke up by the Canadian cold, like a slap in the face. This morning, March 12, my mom and I were on our way to New York City, for a weekend girl getaway.

We landed at Newark Airport at 8am and were headed into Manhattan an half an hour later. As I reached the Sheraton Tribeca I was absolutely exhausted, not sure if it was from my early wake up call, or the crazy journey into the city; but the moment my tired eyes met the glorious sight of the overstuff duvet draped on top of the king sized bed, I dropped my bags on the spot and melted into the luxurious bed, like a proper scene straight out of a rom-com film.

As I gathered my thoughts, the excitement that filled me knowing I was in NYC couldn't contain my tired body any longer. Just outside my window this bustling city was offering experiences that promised to overwhelm all of the human senses in the best way.

Off we went to enjoy a delicious breakfast at Sarabeth's . The bright restaurant was a welcomed by old friends gathering for catchups over coffee, and brunching bloggers. With undeniably delectable dishes, this is a defiant 'do' on your list of NYC Musts.

The warm aroma shared in Sarabeth's contrasted greatly with the wind that whipped and whirled around, such a bad day to wear  a hat, but I had committed to my look and I was going to make it work.

Later that day, we headed out of Tribeca and on to 5th Ave.
This may be controversial, but I think I prefer 5th Ave to the Champ Eylsees, it's just that the window displays on 5th Ave are breath taking, and anyone who truly appreciates fashion, will be mesmerized by the RTW pieces styled in such a spectacular way.

and of course these pictures don't do it justice.

We also took a peek at apple store, which has an out of the box (see what I did there) concept, it's a glass box above ground then you can descend a glass spiralled staircase, or a glass elevator to the store floor below ground.

That night we had tickets to New York Spring Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall opening night, which is still in previews. Let me just say it was pretty damn spectacular. I've wanted to go see the Rockettes for the longest time, and during the opening number I nearly cried, it's something everyone should experience at least once in their life. Derek Hough, Laura Benanti, and other special guests made this a show for everyone to see, all while showcasing the best bits of New York City, and being interactive with the audience.
The next morning, March 13, was another jam packed day. Starting out in Crumbs bakery, where we shared a mouthwatering bagel, with veggie cream cheese and a salted caramel cupcake!! Talk about a balanced breakfast, eh?

Just next door was Grand Central Terminal and boy it was not a let down. Being able to walk into a building so grand, for lack of a better word, and just looking up it really is awe-inspiring, not to mention what an incredible people watching venue it doubles as, another must to tact onto your list of to-do's in NYC.

After walking a few blocks we were met with another great building, the New York Public Library.
After my camera got left in my bag, and my wallet came out, as I went into serious shopoholic mode, refuelling with pizza and pasta at John's Pizzeria, and topping it off with NYC favourite cheesecake at Juniors, try the devil food cheesecake if you love chocolate, or things that are sweet!

That night I had a Teen Vogue event, which you can read more about here, in my Teen Vogue Fashion University summary!

March 14, I spent almost the whole day at the TVFU, and when I got back to my beloved king sized bed, I crashed, but I did do a lot of really cool things throughout the day, which you can read about here.

March 15, I spent the morning again attending the TVFU. I met up with my mom in the afternoon, and we went off to see the last of the city.
Starting with a classic New York brunch at Brinkley's.

Walking to Soho, doing lots of window shopping, and people watching,

Love that this stranger decided to smile for my picture..

after making a cheeky purchase at Kate Spade New York, we journeyed back to the hotel lobby to wait for our ride back to the airport to fly out later that night!

New York is such a extravagant city, but theres just something that makes it even more special from the sky.
