Over the last few years I have noticed a pattern when it comes to my wardrobe. At the end of the summer I tend to clean out my closet of the past years clothes. These clothes are the ones that no longer fit, have stains that cannot be removed, holes that cannot be mended or have faded in colour because I have worn them to death. This is both an exciting and sad time for me, exciting because it means making room for new pieces, but sad because, when you love clothes as much as I do, it can be hard to part ways. But every year I notice that there are the same staples that stay in my closet, these articles of clothing are timeless, classic, and must-haves for everyones wardrobe.
1. The Blazer
|
Black, navy, white, blush, tailored, boyfriend, school boy the colour and style possibilities are endless, find one or ten that you love because blazers can take simple outfits to the next level of chic. |
2. White Blouse
|
A white blouse is a staple simply because you can pair it with absolutely anything, there are so many different styles as well so you're sure to find the perfect one for you.
3. Little Black Dress (LBD)
|
A little black dress is so versatile, you can dress it up, or make it casual, and easily take it from day to night, this is the perfect dress because they can be found in so many beautiful silhouettes, cuts, and fabrics so there will definitely be a lbd for you.
4. Navy Knit Jumper |
|
A navy knit jumper is great because navy is such a classic colour and goes with almost everything, also when have sweaters ever not been in style, they're a necessity, basic colour+essential item=staple piece. (I love fashion math.)
5. Skinny Jean (In a dark wash or black) |
|
The thing with skinny jeans are, that with the dark washes they can look more polished and pass for a more sophisticated look depending on what you pair them with, and if you're saying, 'But I don't look good in a skinny jean', don't worry, go for the slimmest cut of denim that best suits you and purchase it in a darker wash.
If you have any of these pieces in your wardrobe, than hey, look at you being all practical and having your closet all set for life. An important thing to remember when going to buy a staple piece, is that since you'll be keeping and wearing it forever it's completely ok to spend a little more on it than usual, it will be an investment piece, just think about the cost/wear equation and you're set!(more fashion math for you)
Do you have any of these staple pieces in your closet? What else classifies as a staple piece for you?
Happy Fashion Week!!! |
