The Best for Your Body Part 1: Textures, Prints and Silhouettes

Hi yah, hope January is treating you well. I thought that it would be a good idea to share my tips and tricks on how to style and dress best for your shape. What is honestly so fabulous about fashion is that even though there are many different body shapes, there is always a great way to accentuate yours, all by using different patterns, accessories and textures! So I have come up with a mini series of posts on how to dress for your body shape, lets get into it!

This first part is going to be about what silhouettes, textures and prints will work best for you, and if you don't know which body shape you have don't you worry, just keep reading and I will have all the information down below. Disclaimer: All body shapes are different for a reason, it wouldn't be fun or interesting if everyone was the same, and since not every style looks good on everyone this can be used as a guide to find what works best on you!

H- aka 'the rectangle' or 'E' it's an athletic build, where the shoulders and waist are about the same size as the hips. An a-line silhouette(ex. found in skirts) would be best for this body shape because the flare of the skirt would minimize the waist.

8- aka 'the hour glass' the bust and hips are about the same size with the waist being 20-25cm smaller. Again using a skirt silhouette as an example, a bodycon or pencil skirt would best accentuate your curves.

A- aka 'pear shape' there is extra weight in the lower part of the body. The silhouette that goes great with this body shape would be an a-line.

V- aka 'cone shape' the shoulders are wider than the hips by 4cm or more. A tubular silhouette leads the eye up and down giving the illusion of a taller, slimmer body.

()- aka 'apple shape' normally found in average to shorter heights, the bust or chest area is large and the legs are thin. Again the a-line silhouette will balance proportions in this body shape.

Here are the basics on wearing textures, prints and colour:

Textures- thick textures will add weight so if you have a larger chest area focus lighter fabrics in this area, because thin textures minimize weight.
Prints- If you are a petit person wear smaller prints, larger prints with overtake your body and you want to wear your clothes, not have your clothes wear you.
Colours- Bright colours draw attention to an area, use this technique to accentuate a certain area, like colour blocking, have the black go up the sides of your body and the colour in the centre to create the illusion of a smaller waist.

Hope this helped, part 2 will be uploaded later this week and it will be about the must have item to best accentuate your body shape. Enjoy whats left of the January sales!
